If you are searching for a cosmetic dentist, there are a few things that
you should research. All cosmetic dentists practicing in the United States today should
have a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD). The cosmetic dentist should be a
member of the American Dental Association (ADA) as well as being affiliated with a
local and state Dental Society. He/She should be a member of the American Academy of
Cosmetic Dentists (AACD) and be an accredited or non-accredited member. An accredited
member is a Dentist who has passed an examination sponsored by the AACD. He/She should be
able to show you "before" and "after" photographs of a patient’s
smile that has been restored by the Dentist.
Other ways to distinguish a cosmetic dentist should include referencing
academic appointments to dental schools and other academic institutions which have been
attended by the cosmetic dentist. Publications written by the cosmetic dentist,
affiliations with professional societies, participation in dental residency programs and
post-graduate courses completed should also be checked by the prospective patient. |
