Bid for Surgery: Thigh Lift

Thigh Lift

Procedure: This operation is done to tighten the loose skin of the thigh and buttock. It does not change the texture of the skin but by stretching it the crepiness is made less noticeable.
Risk Factor: main risks are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a scar and numbness or change in feeling.
Side Effects:
Length: About two hours.
Anesthesia: This operation is usually performed under a general anesthetic, this means you are asleep. Although small, there is a risk to all anesthetics.
In/Out: The operation is done in an operating room, often at a day surgery unit. Many doctors do surgery in the early morning. Unless you decide to stay in the hospital or unit overnight you can be home within a few hours.
Recovery: The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people are back to work within two to four weeks.
Duration: This depends a great deal on the individual patient and the type of skin but unless you gain weight the results are very long lasting.

The Procedure This operation is done to remove localized areas of fat from many areas of the body. It does not tighten skin although sometimes the underlying tissue seems pulled tighter by a thin layer of scar tissue (adhesions). Liposuction is to sculpt areas and is not designed to remove large amounts of fat or to treat obesity.
Types of anesthesia This operation is performed under either local or general anesthetic. You can decide which you prefer. Many doctors only use local anaesthetic for very small areas. Although small, there is a risk to all anesthetics. A general anesthetic may be avoided in some patients by using large volumes of dilute local anesthetic called the tumescent method.
The surgery

The method of surgery is to make small incisions through which the fat is removed in individual tubes. Different sized cannulae are used to remove the fat and the pattern crisscrosses to reduce the risks of irregularity. The operation is done under either local anesthetic (you are awake) or general anesthetic (you are asleep). You can choose but most patients are are more comfortable asleep. Most of the time this is an outpatient operation and a stay in the hospital is not needed.

All operations have some risk. The risks of surgery are divided into two groups. First those that are seen in all operations and second those that are unique or special for this operation. In the first group, the main risks are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a scar and numbness or change in feeling. The main problems which are special for this operation are surface irregularity and the need for secondary surgery.

Do  I  have to stay in a hospital after the surgery? The operation is done in an operating room, often at a day surgery unit. Many doctors do surgery in the early morning. Unless you decide to stay in the hospital or unit overnight you can be home within a few hours.
Risk factors, complications, side effects? All surgery is associated with bruising and swelling, so you should expect this for several weeks after you operation. Some patients remain bruised for longer and in rare cases up to a month or more. You may start to see the results quickly but you will not see the final benefits of your surgery for many months. Your doctor will not consider you fully healed for a full year.
How long would recovery take? You can follow some simple rules to make your surgical experience more pleasant. First acknowledge that you have had surgery and it takes time to heal. Be patient. For the first twenty-four hours take it easy and rest a lot. This is a good time to read all those books or watch the videos that you have been promising yourself you would read over the last few months. After the first day or two you will start to feel more comfortable but you are still not ready to begin vigorous activity. Keep the area of surgery elevated and apply ice as directed. If needed, you will be given specific instructions . Take plenty of fluids and eat a balanced nourishing diet. Most doctors suggest additional vitamin C for about six weeks. Do not take extra vitamin E at this point because it can increase bleeding. It is very important that if you have any questions you call tour doctor's office. You should not drive yourself for a day or two after surgery.

Cost of this procedure varies with region from a low of $3100
to a high of $4257. This cost includes surgeon's fee,
    anesthesia, and facility costs.
